Trends highlighted include:
- In 2017, GDP is forecast to grow by 5.3% – more than double the rate in sub-Saharan Africa (2.6%) – reaching $74.7 billion.
- Kenya is the third largest producer of tea globally, producing a record high 473,000 tonnes of tea in 2016.
- Uganda is Kenya’s largest trading partner in terms of exports (10.1% of the total), while China is the country’s largest import partner (23.6%).
- Kenya’s agriculture sector employed approximately 62% of the country’s total workforce in 2016, contributing 15.2% to GDP – the largest sector in the economy.
